Keir has lived in Holborn & St Pancras for over 25 years. His children attend local schools and his wife works at a Camden NHS hospital.

He was elected as Labour MP for Holborn & St Pancras in May 2015 and became Leader of the Labour Party in April 2020.  Before becoming Leader, he held the roles of Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the EU (2016 – 2020), and Shadow Home Office Minister (2015 – 2016).

As well as his busy national role, Keir remains dedicated to supporting his constituents. He is co-chair of Camden’s Youth Safety Taskforce and continues to work closely with local community organisations and businesses.

Before being elected to Parliament, Keir was the Director of Public Prosecutions and head of the Crown Prosecution Service (2008-2013). He was knighted in 2014 for his services to law and criminal justice.

Keir co-founded Doughty Street Chambers in 1990, working to protect human rights and fight against the death penalty. He is the author of several key texts on the law, and from 2002-2007 he worked for the Policing Board of Northern Ireland as a human rights advisor.

In his spare time, Keir enjoys watching and playing football. He is a season ticket holder at Arsenal and a regular in local 5-a-side games.
